Method
- Prepare Your Celery: Begin by washing your celery stalks thoroughly under cold running water. Chop them into roughly one-inch pieces. If your celery has particularly fibrous strings, you can peel those off with a vegetable peeler or your fingers.
- Measure Your Liquid: Pour your chosen liquid – water, coconut water, or almond milk – into your blender. Always add the liquid first to aid in efficient blending.
- Add Remaining Ingredients: Toss in your chopped celery pieces, freshly squeezed lemon juice, and any optional add-ins like apple, banana, ginger, or a sweetener. Ensure all ingredients are settled around the blades.
- Blend on Low, Then High: Start your blender on a low setting for about 10-15 seconds to begin breaking down the celery. Then, increase the speed to high. Blend continuously for 60-90 seconds, or until the mixture is completely smooth with no visible chunks or stringy bits.
- Check Consistency: If your smoothie is too thick, add a little more liquid, about a tablespoon at a time, and blend again for another 10-15 seconds. Repeat until you reach your desired pourable consistency.
- Taste and Adjust: Pour a small amount into a spoon and taste it. If it’s too tart, add a tiny bit more sweetener. If it needs more zing, add a splash more lemon juice. Adjust until it suits your palate perfectly.
- Serve Immediately: Once you’re happy with the taste and consistency, pour your Celery Smoothie into a glass and enjoy it right away. It’s best when fresh and cold.
Notes
For the best results, always use cold ingredients. Chilled water or ice cubes ensure a wonderfully refreshing smoothie. You can also freeze celery chunks beforehand for an even colder, thicker consistency without dilution. Layer your blender ingredients correctly: liquids first, then softer ingredients, followed by harder items like celery. A high-speed blender helps achieve a silky-smooth texture. Adjust the flavor to your liking; a small piece of apple or a date can naturally sweeten, while a tiny pinch of salt can enhance the celery's natural taste. Leftover smoothie can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days; shake or re-blend before serving as natural separation may occur.
